Clarry Neame describes himself as an Impressionist painter of light. He believes that when you are surrounded by nature’s best, that’s lit with the region’s superb clarity of light, you cannot do or be otherwise.
Clarry grew up in Spring Creek near the Wairau River in Marlborough and found his love for drawing and painting at a very young age of four years old.
He began his career at Wellington School of Design, then worked in the commercial art field for 26 years.
In 1993 Clarry became a professional fine artist and has been the Artist in Residence at Hunters’ Winery in Marlborough since 1996.
“Creating is exciting and seeing what happens as I go is magical. The results will take care of themselves. I don’t plan things out. I just start at the top and wander all over the canvas. The most exciting thing is, I don’t know what will happen next. I like to feel the painting. If I’m standing on a cliff and painting the valley below I don’t just paint what I see, I paint what I feel. I am extraordinary privileged to do what I do.”
