Our Story …
In June 2014 the business at 60 Main Road, Havelock closed and we had yet another empty store… far too many for this small town.
Jo Downey, local entrepreneur, came up with the idea of a gallery where local Marlborough artists pay an affordable rent to cover costs and volunteers keep it running seven days a week with profits going back into the community.
“It takes a village to raise a child” and from the moment of the Gallery’s conception the village rallied together to make it happen.
The Gallery Havelock opened in October 2014 and today currently showcases 27 Marlborough artists and has given over $87,500.00 back to the community. Between 16,000 and 19,000 visitors visit the gallery each year.
